When you book a vacation at Kishauwau Country Cabins, you might enjoy a fun-filled and relaxing weekend without ever leaving the 55 wooded acres of our Central Illinois property. There are, however, lots of local attractions within a short drive of our cabins to give you even more variety and entertainment for your stay. Whether you are looking to explore the outdoors or get a taste of local culture in the small towns surrounding our vacation rentals, you can find a wealth of things to do close by in any season.

Area State Parks

We are neighbors to Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, Buffalo Rock State Park, and Illini State Park, which means you will find no shortage of hiking, birdwatching, biking, and picnicking spots. If you are seeking more outdoor adventures, you can book skydiving, zip lining, or off-roading adventures (requires your own equipment) nearby. For a quiet afternoon outdoors, you might visit a local orchard to pick fruit and savor the season’s harvest.

Local Towns

There is something for everyone to enjoy in the nearby small towns of Ottawa, LaSalle, Utica, and Peru. The small town charm of these communities is sure to captivate you as you discover these local attractions in your daily adventures:

· Dining – From casual family dining to exotic cuisine to gourmet foods, you can find something to satisfy your appetite. Just a handful of our favorite spots include Uptown Grill (LaSalle), Canal Port (Utica) and Annie’s Hide-A-Way (Ottawa).

· Shops – If shopping is your preferred pastime, you might check out the abundance of local shops, flea markets, and antique stores throughout Central Illinois. These hidden gems can be the perfect places to find unique gifts, clothing, or décor that is sure to start a conversation.

· Historic landmarks and museums – You can get to know the rich history of the Midwest in the museums of the region. In Ottawa you can find the Ottawa Scouting Museum, along with a number of historic homes and landmarks in surrounding towns, including the Reddick Mansion (Ottawa), Hegeler Carus Mansion (LaSalle) and Weber House and Garden (Streator). There is also the I & M Canal boat tour in the spring/summer months that will give you a history of how the canal was built. All offer wonderful tours and activities for you to enjoy.

· Wineries – There is an emerging wine culture in Central Illinois, which can be seen at a handful of local wineries that offer tastings and tours for a perfect date or ladies’ day out.
